Come visit the Minoritenplatz, one of Vienna’s oldest public squares. Minoritenplatz is located right in the center of the city, in the first district Innere Stadt. The most prominent feature of the square is the Minorite Church (Minoritenkirche), which is where the square gets its name.
There are many other important building in the vicinity, including the Federal Chancellery, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Education and the Palais Niederösterreich. In addition, Minoritenplatz is quite close to the Hofburg Imperial Palace; therefore, many aristocratic families chose to live in the square from the 16th to the 18th centuries.
You'll definitely want to check out the Lapis Lazuli Fountain, created from the largest known lapis lazuli stone ever found in the Chilean Andes, with two plaques that tell the history of the stone.
