Minorite Church

Don't miss the Long history of Minorite Church

The highlight of Minoritenplatz is the Minorite Church (Minoritenkirche) church. In 1224, four Minorites approached Duke Leopold VI, who gave them a plot with a small church, the St. Catherine's Church.

The church was later damaged by fires, prompting the construction of a new church. The architects remain unknown to this day; however, Duke Albrecht II supported the construction of the new Minorite Church with generous donations. The church took a long time to build and was probably completed around 1350.

The church has a long and arduous history, including wars, damage, rebuilding, and changing hands several times. Don't forget to check out the inside of the church to experience the unforgettable mosaic "The Last Supper", copied from Leonardo da Vinci's famous fresco.
