Cafe Demel Vienna is a famous bakery and chocolatier originally established in 1786. Ludwig Dehne, a confectioner from Wurttemberg, founded the Cafe Demel Vienna and his wife and son, August Dehne, continued the business after his death.
In 1857, August Dehne sold the store to Christoph Demel. Located in the central Innere Stadt district near Hofburg Palace, Cafe Demel was given the title of Purveyor to the Imperial and Royal Court. (This title is also known as k.u.k Hofzuckerbacker).
The Cafe Demel Vienna interior is designed in a neo-baroque style and waitresses donning white garbs still address the customers in a traditional third person manner. The pastries offer a unique taste of the delicacies of an earlier time and the bakery is still regarded as one of the best in Vienna.
