Come visit Palais Schwarzenberg. This opulent palace is next to Belvedere Palace and created in the "Garden Palais" style. The palace was funded by the Schwarzenberg family, and is known for its Baroque presentation and magnificent gardens. In the 19th century, most of the parks of Palais Schwarzenberg were changed into an English style.
Right in front of the palace, there is beautiful fountain known as the Hochstrahlbrunnen. In WWII, the palace was damaged by bombs, but repaired soon after the fighting. The Soviets built a memorial for the soldiers who had died in WWII between the palace and the Hochstrahlbrunnen.
Throughout the centuries, the Palais Schwarzenberg remained in the hands of the Schwarzenberg family, a distinguished house of the Habsburg Empire. Today, the Palais Schwarzenberg houses a few companies, the Schwarzenberg family when they visit, a hotel, a restaurant and the Swiss Embassy. The gardens are also the only vineyard in central Vienna.
