The Vienna International Centre (UNO City) is the campus that hosts the United Nations office in Vienna. Former Chancellor of Austria, Dr. Bruno Kreisky, had the initial idea of basing an international assembly in Vienna. The VIC was constructed and designed by Austrian architect Johann Staber in the 1970s.
The complex hosts four thousand UN employees from different organizations, including the IEAA (International Atomic Energy Agency), the UNIDO (UN Industrial Development Organization) and the UNHCR (UN Refugee Agency.) There are guided tours available to the public in English and German for individuals and groups of up to ten.
There is no need to register and the tours run throughout the week. The Vienna International Centre is worth a visit for anyone interested in history or global objectives and politics.
