For a brilliant visual experience, take a trip to the Trautson Palace (Palais Trautson). Located at Museumstraße 7, the palace was built in 1712 for Johann Leopold Donat von Trautson, the first Prince of Trautson. The palace remained a possession of the noble Trautson family until Marie Therese bought it in 1760 to house the Hungarian guard. Later, the Austrian State bought the palace from Hungary to establish the Ministry of Justice. To this day, the palace is used as office space by the Austrian Ministry of Justice.
The Palais Trautson was designed by Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach and is one of the most beautiful Baroque palaces in Vienna. The outside of the palace is covered with amazing and fascinating decorations. There are statues on the roof, above the gate, and above the doors of the first floor. You will certainly want to see the bas-reliefs of the eardrums of the windows as well as many other lovely features on the façade. The gardens, designed by Jean Trehet, are uniquely arranged on the right side of the palace (when facing it). Everything is tied together by the fantastic columns and the Corinthian parastas, giving the palace a unique and powerful character.
