St. Rupert’s Church, or Ruprechtskirche, is considered the oldest church in Vienna. Historians think the church was built in 740. In 1993, they installed new stunning stained-glass windows designed by Lydia Rappolt. The church is located in the section of the Roman Vindobona, one of the oldest areas of Vienna.
St. Rupert's Church is dedicated to Saint Rupert of Salzburg, a patron saint of the salt merchants of Vienna. When looking at the exterior of the church, you can still see the marks left by a fire from centuries ago. While the outside of the church looks a little rusty, the inside is whitewashed with a simple stone altar.
If you plan to visit Vienna in July, there is a series of summer concerts at Ruprechtskirche that enhance the atmosphere and are lots of fun!
