A list of Vienna's choice monuments must include the Mozart Monument, celebrating and honoring Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and now set directly inside the entrance of the Burggarten.
The main figure was sculpted from Italian marble to highlight the musician before his music stand. The base below is flanked by wreaths and masks, and cherubs affected by the might of Mozart's music. Also interesting is the relief carved with scenes from his opera, Don Giovanni.
Around the back is another statue portrayal of Mozart as a six-year old, along with his sister and father. While Tilgner set the work in Albertinaplatz, it was heavily damaged in World War Two, and after extensive restoration in 1953, it was relocated to where it now stands.
