The Konzerthaus opened in 1913. Its first concert was attended by Emperor Franz Joseph I. As the perfect tribute to the concert house's dedication to combining modern, classical and international, the Wiener Concertverein played a contemporary piece by Richard Strauss followed by Beethoven's 9th Symphony. This variety still characterizes the Konzerthaus to this day, alongside a profound respect for tradition and the joys of innovation.
Every year, the Wiener Konzerthaus is home to various popular festivals. In January, it hosts the Resonanzen, dedicated to performance ensembles presenting the best of Early Music. At the end of the year, come experience the Wien Modern, a festival for contemporary works that includes multiple concerts.
