Stare into the thoughtful eyes of sculptor Karl Kundmann's statue of Franz Grillparzer as the writer contemplates the world--feel the strength of the poetry he created. Then, look at the structure around him.
Architect Karl Haseneauer's four Corinthian columns have intricate crowns, above which are several orating masks, a designed cornice (molding), and seated Putti (cherubs).
A concave wall extends from the sides of the main monument: these hold six reliefs of scenes from Grillparzer's dramas, carefully detailed by sculptor Rudolf Weyr. Surrounded by the green, lush Volksgarten, the Franz Grillparzer Monument is a wonderful place to relax.
