Maria Theresa established the Botanical Garden of the University of Vienna in 1754. Visitors will see over 12,000 different plants from six continents. The garden is famous for its scientific research and the many animal species preserved in the beautiful, relaxing atmosphere.
The Botanical Garden of the University of Vienna is a part of the university and covers nearly 20 acres. The garden’s stunning greenhouses were built between 1890-1893, and after sustaining damage during World War II, they were either rebuilt or renovated between 1970-1995. The tropical greenhouse is in the center and is open to the public.
The Botanical Garden of the University of Vienna is free of charge and open all year round, except during the Christmas season. The garden is a wonderful place to relax, jog or walk, and it’s an ideal place for children to play.
