The Beethoven Statue, the bronze monument to Ludwig van Beethoven by Kasper Zumbusch, is one of the most exceptional and famous dedications to the composer. Beethoven sits high above the ordinary person, in a pose inspired by Michelangelo's Moses, and surrounded by allegorical representations of the love of solitude that gave us his compositions.
The Putti (cherubs) at his feet are aspects of his symphonies: pastoral, heroic, idyllic, elegiac, movement, and pain. He is guarded on both sides by the Titan Prometheus ("suffering for humanity's sake") and the goddess of victory and eternal glory, Nike.
