You've never experienced anything quite like the Belvedere 21 museum (21er Haus). The impressive building is an architectural delight. It was constructed for the World Exhibition in 1958 by leading architect Karl Schwanzer as the Austria pavilion. In 1962, it opened as a museum for 20th century art and became known as Belvedere 21.

Belvedere 21 is a part of the Belvedere and is an impressive and intensively engaging platform for Austrian art from 1945 to the present day. The museum includes themed changing exhibitions and individual items; however, the new museum also showcases the estate of the sculptor Fritz Wotruba and houses the branch of the Austrian Federation that deals with loaning art and reproductions.
Karl Schwanzer received the Grand prix d'Architecture in 1958 for his uniquely trendsetting and technically innovative design. The building was re-opened in 2011, based on the adaptions and remodeling of architect Adolf Krischanitz. In addition to other changes, Krischanitz excavated the basement and added a six-story tower to the facility. The tower acts as a long-range signal.

The museum is replete with a cinema and other features; however, the perfect way to finish off your museum experience is to visit the cafe-restaurant Twentyone. There is a delightful theme around the number 21, including their 21 à la carte dishes of crossover cuisine, 21 types of coffee, 21 red and white wines, and 21 varieties of gin. For the perfect summer dining experience, definitely eat out on the gorgeous terrace located in the enchanting sculpture courtyard.
