The Albertina Museum in Vienna State Opera (Wiener Staatsoper) was the 1776 brainchild of Duke Albert of Saxony-Teschen, consisting of masterpieces from the 15th century all the way until present day. There are over 60,000 drawings and over one million prints.

The permanent art exhibitions feature the artistic genius of Claude Monet, Pierre-August Renoir and Edgar Degas. Some of the famous art pieces on rotating display are from Robert Rauschenberg, Gustav Klimt and Pablo Picasso.

The Albertina Museum also has architectural and photography collections that are displayed on special occasions.
There are 21 large, beautifully furnished staterooms and residential places where Empress Maria Theresia’s daughter, Maria Christine, and Karl, her adopted son, lived.

The staterooms are a shining green, yellow and turquoise, partly furnished with original furniture that will you take you back to the inhabitants‘ time. All throughout these two floors, you will be mesmerized by the elegance and splendor of everything from the furniture to the floors. What a unique and precious opportunity to gain insights on what life was like for the Hapsburg monarchy!

Guide tour in Albertina Museum

One of the best ways to fully experience the Albertina Museum is through a guided tour with one of our expert art educators. This is the perfect way to make sure you don’t miss a detail of the splendor of the staterooms or the artistic masterpieces. Tours are available in German, English, French, Spanish, Italian and Russian.

Before you leave, make sure to grab some books and souvenirs at the museum gift shop. Or go to the Albertina Museum dining area where guests are treated to diverse Viennese cuisine. 

The museum is open daily from 10AM-6PM (9PM on Wednesdays) and the price is €12.90 for adults and free for children (under 19), with assorted discounts for senior citizens, groups, etc.
