Welcome to the Grinzing Church (Pfarrkirche Grinzing), the Roman Catholic parish church in the 19th district of Vienna that is consecrated to the Holy Cross. This fantastic church was built from the year 1417 to 1426 by twelve families, likely wine growers. The church's history is long and tumultuous, including being damaged or destroyed multiple times, as well as being rebuilt.
The church was renovated in 1881 and equipped with a new high altar and new glass windows. The baroque interior was removed along with some church items, and the high altar was replaced by a gorgeous marble altar. There were further future renovations, such as dehumidifying the church, providing underfloor heating, extending the building, and rebuilding specific sections. The incredible organ was extensively restored to museum standards in 1997. This treasure has blessed the church with the sounds of local musical icons such as Ludwig van Beethoven and Franz Schubert.
