St. Peter’s Church (Peterskirche) is the most elaborate and beautiful baroque church in Vienna. The current structure, designed by Gabriel Montani, was built between 1702 and 1732. The history of the ancient Christian site goes all the way back to the 4th century!
The outside of the church is very nice to look at, with appealing domes and statues. However, the real intrigue comes when you step inside and are mesmerized by a veritable kaleidoscope of breathtaking colors.
The level of beauty is even more profound if you visit on a sunny day. And don’t forget to check out the amazing artwork throughout the church. In addition, the St. Peter’s Church often hosts organ recitals and choir performances.
St. Peter’s Church is very conveniently located, just off the pedestrian area of central Vienna. The church is open from Monday-Friday from 7AM-8PM, and on weekends and holidays from 9AM-9PM. Free tours are available.
