Some elements of history appear unreal, and are truly challenging for modern man to fathom. The History of Torture Museum (Foltermuseum) features the tools and methods used to torture people throughout history, a gruesome portrayal of historical torture techniques with realistic props and dummies. The 800 square meter exhibition floor has over 100 exhibits depicting torture and cruelty.
Foltermuseum focuses primarily on medieval torture methods, but also has a section displaying contemporary methods of capital punishment and torture.
The History of Torture Museum is open daily from 10AM to 6PM. There are discounts available for civil and military servants, students and the disabled.
The History of Torture Museum is accessible via the public Neubaugasse subway station.
