Gorgeous Portrayal of the Wedding of Mary and Joseph

The Wedding Fountain monument (Vermählungsbrunnen) was erected in fulfilment of a promise to create a religious display. Originally a wood pillar, the site evolved to hold the Adnet marble fountain created by Antonio Corradini in 1732.

It is decorated with the seldom-used Christian motif of Joseph and Mary's wedding. This 18.5-meter-high work includes statues of the couple and the High Priest standing in water basins, a host of angels guarding from above. A large brass canopy held up by columns rises from the corners of the base, which is decorated with detailed religious reliefs.
