Welcome to Künstlerhaus am Karlsplatz. This vibrant center of Viennese culture, built in 1868, has a vast and impressive exhibition space. Künstlerhaus also hosts a wide range of programs and events. The House is built on the Karlsplatz, next to the famous site of the Musikverein (Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, New Year's Concert).
In addition to the many lovely exhibitions, Künstlerhaus also offers a variety of lectures, performances, and other exhibition-related events. Events are also held in the gallery located at the exit to the subway mall (Künstlerhaus-Passage Gallery). The program focuses on contemporary art, architecture, design, media, and much more.
Kunstlerhaus hosts Stadtkino, the contemporary and retrospective art house cinema. There is an international movie series and the house is one of the annual locations of the international Viennale Film Festival. There's Brut Wein, a theater program that develops new performances in cooperation with independent groups from the international theater scene. And there's Ludwig & Adele, a young urban restaurant.
The house is owned by The Association of Austrian Artists Künstlerhaus, founded in 1861. They have nearly 500 member artists from a wide variety of fields, including painting, sculpting, architecture, and much more. It sees itself as a platform for artists and art lovers.
